Salmonella in food products

These bacteria are mostly transmitted through raw animal foods, especially poultry meat, eggs and pork. However, spices as well as herbs, can also be contaminated with salmonella. Salmonella is rarely found in most other foods.

Despite the significant decrease in reported cases for more than 20 years, salmonella is one of the most common causes of foodborne illness.

Ready-to-eat foods contaminated with Salmonella are considered a health hazard because these pathogens are capable of causing severe gastrointestinal infections that can have serious consequences, especially in young children, pregnant women, the elderly or the sick.

In our Tentamus laboratories we regularly perform the tests for salmonella. With our rapid methods such as RT-PCR, we can provide results in under 24 h.
