Red lipsticks tested – Paraffins, mineral oils, silicones, BHT and much more detectable

In the current Öko-Test issue (February 2023), a total of 18 red lipsticks were tested for compliance with the EU Cosmetics Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009. None of the products received the top rating of "very good".

The following ingredients led to a downgrade in Öko-Test ratings:

-          Formaldehyde/releasers

-          PEG/PEG derivatives

-          Butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT)

-          Paraffins

-          Mineral oil hydrocarbons (MOAH)

-          Halogen organic compounds (AOX/EOX)

-          Silicones

-          Allura Red AC and Tartrazine (azo dyes)
