Labeling of Traces of Allergens – "may contain" may lead to objections: ALTS Decision
The Food Federation Germany reports in a statement that the precautionary allergen labeling in the form "may […] contain" may lead to objections by food monitoring authorities.
The reason given is that in the relevant ALS/ALTS decision 2021/88/15 only the statements:
- "may contain traces of (explicit naming of allergens)"
And
- "(Explicit naming of allergens) are processed in the company"
are mentioned as sufficiently specific statements.
The Food Federation Germany has, according to its own information, already contacted the ALTS and ALS (Working Group of Chemical and Food Experts from the Federal States and the Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety) to suggest that the statement "may contain (explicit naming of allergens)" be included in the decision.
