Where do the Salmonella in the "Ferrero" products come from?

Where do the Salmonella in the "Ferrero" products come from?

In December 2021 and January 2022, salmonella was detected in two buttermilk tanks during internal controls at the Belgian plant of the chocolate manufacturer "Ferrero." The products made from these were withheld. Additionally, the company implemented some hygiene measures and increased sampling and testing of products and the processing environment. However, no notification was sent out to consumers.

At the end of March 2022, scientists linked the previously identified Salmonella strain to numerous cases of illness in several European countries. The consequence was a recall of all batches of chocolate products of the "Kinder" brand manufactured in Belgium.

By 02.05.22, a total of 151 genetically related cases had been reported from 11 countries, where a connection with the consumption of the involved chocolate products is suspected.
