BfR Information Sheet on Protection Against EHEC - In BAV Newsletter 03/2012

The Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) has summarized tips for protection against EHEC infections in an information leaflet. In view of the large EHEC outbreak in early summer 2011, the BfR explicitly points out hygiene measures for the cultivation and preparation of sprouts, as contaminated sprouts were then very likely the cause of the numerous infections. EHEC pathogens naturally occur in the intestines of cattle and other ruminants, therefore careful handling of raw milk and raw meat is also extremely important.
