Butylated Hydroxytoluene (BHT) – Prohibition in accordance with Regulation (EU) No. 2022/2195

Butylated Hydroxytoluene (BHT) – Prohibition in accordance with Regulation (EU) No. 2022/2195

BHT is currently used as an antioxidant in cosmetics and will be newly regulated by Regulation (EU) No. 2022/2195 from July 1, 2023, and January 1, 2024, respectively.

New maximum limits will then apply (previously usable without restrictions):

- Mouthwashes: max. 0.001%

- Toothpastes: max. 0.1%

- Other leave-on or rinse-off products: max. 0.8%

From July 1 of this year, products that do not comply with these requirements may no longer be put on the market. From January 1, 2024, a sales ban will apply if the above-mentioned limits are not met.

Additionally, the substances homosalate and acid yellow 3 will also be newly regulated by the aforementioned regulation.

In our Tentamus laboratories, we carry out the analysis of the mentioned substances quickly and reliably for you.
