Butylhydroxytoluene (BHT) in Cosmetics - Re-Regulation and Ban from January 2024

With Regulation (EU) No. 2022/2195 from the year 2023, a sales ban for cosmetics containing the substance BHT and failing to observe the following limits applies immediately:

• Mouthwashes: max. 0.001%
• Toothpastes: max. 0.1%
• Other leave-on or rinse-off products: max. 0.8%

Regulation (EU) No. 2022/2195 also re-regulates among others the substances Acid Yellow 3 (limit for non-oxidative hair colorants) and Homosalate (limit for face products).
