Cosmetics in the Safety Gate – July 2026
In July 2026, numerous cosmetic products were once again classified as not safe for human health. The classification was made via the EU Safety Gate portal.
The following risks were, among others, cited:
- Detection of prohibited substances: lead (85.25%!), hydroquinone, octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (D4), butylphenyl methylpropional (Lilial)
- Detection of the preservative benzoic acid above the legal limit of 0.5% (as acid) in a leave-on product
- Undeclared allergenic fragrance ingredients
- Detection of p-phenylenediamine without a coupler in oxidative hair dyes
- Detection of hydrogen peroxide in tooth whitening/bleaching products above the legal limit of 6%
- Detection of cannabidiol and THC in psychoactive concentrations
- Detection of perfluorononyl dimethicone, which is a PFAS compound
This extensive list clearly demonstrates how important regular monitoring and testing of both cosmetic finished products and the cosmetic raw materials used is.
