Draft Regulation EC No 1333/2008 on the prohibition of titanium dioxide E 171

```html
The draft regulation to amend Regulation (EC) No. 1333/2008 provides for a transitional period of 6 months for the ban on titanium dioxide (E 171) as a food additive. The ban is expected to apply from mid-2022. Foods already produced may be sold until the end of their shelf life.
Titanium dioxide will not be completely removed from Regulation (EC) No. 1333/2008 on food additives, as it will continue to be approved for pharmaceuticals, and this approval is linked to food law. The requirement for the approval of titanium dioxide in the pharmaceutical sector must be reviewed within three years.
If the member states agree to the draft regulation, it is expected to be published in the Official Journal at the turn of the year.
