EFSA assesses genetically modified soybean DAS-44406-6 × FG72

EFSA assesses genetically modified soybean DAS-44406-6 × FG72

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has published a scientific assessment of the genetically modified soybean DAS-44406-6 × FG72. The application concerns the use of the soybean in food and feed, as well as its import and processing.

DAS-44406-6 × FG72 is a so-called stacked line, in which the two genetically modified soybean events DAS-44406-6 and FG72 are combined.

As part of its evaluation, EFSA examined, among other things, the molecular biological properties, potential effects on human and animal health, the composition of the soybean, and potential environmental risks. The responsible panel concluded that the evaluated soybean line is as safe as conventional comparator varieties in terms of potential health and environmental impacts.

The scientific assessment is not yet equivalent to an approval. As part of the European approval process, comments on the assessment can be submitted until August 28, 2026. Subsequently, the responsible European institutions will decide on a possible approval.

GMO analyses ensure labeling and product quality
The development and evaluation of new genetically modified plants underscore the importance of reliable control of food, feed, and raw materials. Targeted investigations can contribute to the detection of genetically modified components and compliance with labeling requirements, especially in internationally traded soybean products.

BAV Institute offers comprehensive GMO screenings as well as the identification and quantification of numerous genetically modified soybean, corn, and canola varieties using real-time PCR. This also includes testing methods for the soybean events DAS-44406-6 and FG72.

We are happy to support you in selecting a suitable testing strategy for your raw materials and products.
