EFSA update on Alternaria toxins and new EU guidance values for mycotoxins in feed

EFSA has published the draft of an updated risk assessment on Alternaria toxins in food and feed.

In the draft, several Alternaria toxins were assessed. However, as before, no toxicological reference value could be established.

At the same time, a new EU Commission Recommendation (Recommendation (EU) 2026/1801) replaces the previous guidance values for mycotoxins in feed – coming into force from 1 July 2027 and 1 October 2027 for certain products.

Existing guidance values are largely being reduced and additional guidance values introduced. For single feed materials, guidance values for further products/product types are being introduced; for complete feeds, guidance values for additional animal species are being introduced.

Detailed information on Alternaria toxins can be found at the following link.
