EU protection for Swabian Spätzle and Knöpfle - In BAV Newsletter 02/2012

The European Commission has awarded the protected geographical indication (P.G.I.) label to regional specialties from Baden-Württemberg. For a P.G.I., at least one of the production stages - production, processing, or preparation - must take place in the area of origin. Swabian spätzle and Swabian knöpfle must therefore come from Swabia in the future.
