Due to the current Corona situation, disinfectants for hand disinfection are increasingly in demand and required in Germany and Europe.

As a result, the BAUA (Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health) has published a general decree regarding the production of disinfectants (link below). This concerns disinfectants containing 1-propanol, 2-propanol, and ethanol.

With this decree, it is established that for a limited time, biocidal products are approved and placed on the market, deviating from the regulations of the Biocidal Products Regulation. Production is carried out by pharmacies, the pharmaceutical industry, and companies in the chemical industry, and supply must be to professional users (no direct supply to private consumers).

You can access the wording of the general decree at https://www.baua.de/DE/Angebote/Aktuelles/Meldungen/2020/2020-03-04-Desinfektionsmittel.html.

In case you, as a manufacturer, plan to produce such products for the first time, we recommend contacting the BAUA or the respective ministry of your federal state (Social Ministry or Ministry of Agriculture) to clarify whether this decree also applies to you and under what circumstances you can bring your product to market as quickly as possible.

The necessary testing of disinfectants is usually carried out in officially listed laboratories. You can find them at: https://vah-online.de/files/download/VAH_Liste_Laboratorien.pdf
