FirstMeetingoftheBfRCommissionforTattooInks: FocusonAnalyticsandToxicology

The BfR Commission for Tattoo Inks laid the foundation for its work at its first meeting on March 23, 2023. As an independent expert committee, it advises the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) on issues of safety and risk assessment of tattoo inks. The commission closely cooperates with standardization bodies such as the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) or the OECD.

The meeting dealt with the minimum requirements and testing methods for tattoo inks to minimize potential health risks, especially in analytics, toxicology, as well as technology and hygiene. Particular attention was paid to the necessity of standards for the composition of tattoo pigments and the development of analytical methods.
