In total, the magazine Öko-Test has closely examined 20 rouge products in the current test issue. Only 5 of the 20 products achieved a "good" rating, all other products received a maximum rating of "satisfactory." The main reason for the downgrade: contamination with the heavy metals arsenic, antimony, lead, and nickel.
According to Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009, these metals may only be present in technically unavoidable and safe amounts for health. The Federal Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL) has set guidelines for this purpose. Other parameters leading to the downgrade were:
- Allergy-inducing fragrances
- Silicones
- Microplastics
The entry of heavy metals primarily occurs through mineral-rich raw materials such as mica, which are used in large quantities in such products.
Regularly check both your raw materials and your cosmetic end products for heavy metal content. The BAV Institute, part of the international Tentamus laboratory group, analyzes quickly and reliably for prohibited residues.
