High complaint rate for dietary supplements from the internet
The Bavarian State Office for Health and Food Safety (LGL) examined nearly 400 samples of dietary supplements in 2025 – with a clear result: 241 samples (61%) were objected to. In total, the authority identified more than 400 grounds for objection as many products exhibited multiple violations simultaneously.
The largest share was made up of unauthorized health or disease-related claims in 212 cases. In addition, misleading or non-compliant labeling was found. In individual cases, the products contained unauthorized novel foods or were classified as medicinal products due to their composition or presentation.
The current results emphasize the persistently high legal risks, especially in the online distribution of dietary supplements. Manufacturers and distributors are required to carefully examine the composition, promotion, and labeling of their products.
At the laboratories of the Tentamus Group, we regularly conduct comprehensive examinations and labeling checks of dietary supplements. Our experts competently support you in the legally compliant assessment of your products.
