The current Öko-Test issue from October 2024 tested 35 oatmeals
In the current Öko-Test issue of October 2024, 35 oat flakes were tested. In some products, the mold toxins T2 and HT-2 were found. The mycotoxins T-2 and HT-2 toxin belong to the group of trichothecenes and are produced by Fusarium fungi. These toxins are also found in oat flakes, with their occurrence and concentrations varying greatly by region. Due to their high cytotoxic and immunosuppressive effects, the T-2 and HT-2 toxins pose a health risk to humans and animals.
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) recommends a maximum total daily intake (sum TDI) of 0.02 µg/kg. For T-2/HT-2 toxin, it was already established in 2017 that acute exposure is below the set dose, while chronic exposure poses a potential health risk for babies, children, and adults.
