Infection with coronavirus from consuming food unlikely
A respiratory disease has broken out in Asia. The infection is caused by a previously unknown coronavirus (2019-nCoV). The symptoms resemble those of a cold infection with cough and cold. The rapid spread occurs because patients are already contagious before the first symptoms appear.
The infection with the virus usually occurs through droplet infection via the air. This requires close contact with infected people or animals.
The possibility of becoming infected through contact with products, consumer goods, or food is not currently documented, and there are no known cases of infection through this route. Only when handling raw meat products should general hygiene rules be observed, also with regard to other pathogens.
