Federal Court of Justice (BGH) ruling on the protected geographical indication of Black Forest ham

Federal Court of Justice (BGH) ruling on the protected geographical indication of Black Forest ham

Black Forest ham has been a protected geographical indication under EU law since 1997. According to a product specification, Black Forest ham must be seasoned, cured, dried, smoked, and matured in the Black Forest. The Federal Court of Justice (BGH) has now ruled in a legal dispute that the final product does not necessarily have to be sliced and packaged in the Black Forest. This dismissed a complaint from the "Association for the Protection of Black Forest Ham Producers".
