Following the detection of the pathogenic bacterium Listeria monocytogenes, enoki mushrooms are currently being withdrawn from the market. Consumption of the affected products is strongly discouraged.

The affected goods were distributed via retail in several European countries. Consumers can return the respective products to the respective points of sale; the purchase price will be refunded.

Such tests are an important part of quality assurance along the entire food chain and enable contaminated products to be quickly identified and recalled.

Health Risks from Listeria

After consuming contaminated food, listeria can cause symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. In some cases, the symptoms do not appear until later and resemble a flu-like illness.
