Low microbiological risk products according to DIN EN ISO 29621

The aim of the standard (DIN EN ISO 29621 "Guidelines for risk assessment and identification of microbiologically low-risk products") is to assist cosmetic manufacturers and regulatory authorities in identifying "microbiologically low-risk products" through a risk assessment.

This is very important because, according to DIN EN ISO 29621:2011 and DIN EN ISO 11930:2012, the scope of microbiological testing can be significantly reduced or completely waived for microbiologically low-risk products.

Microbiologically low-risk products are defined as "products whose environment does not provide microorganisms with the physical and chemical conditions for growth and/or survival".

According to DIN EN ISO 29621:2011, products that meet one or more of the following product characteristics (see Table 3) may be considered examples of low-risk products.
