Öko-Test takes a closer look at cold baths
In the current November issue, a total of 20 cold baths were examined in detail. Seven of the products are marketed as cosmetics, 13 are declared as medicinal products.
Among all the products, the highest rating awarded was "satisfactory" (eight times), another product received a "sufficient" rating, and the remaining products were rated as inadequate.
The main reason for the poor rating was often insufficient evidence from manufacturers regarding the effectiveness of the products. Additionally, the following were viewed critically and led to a downgrade:
- Camphor, low therapeutic efficacy, but possible side effects
- Fragrance Delta-3-Caren as a potential allergen
- Polyethylene glycols (PEG) and PEG derivatives
- Critical fragrance Lilial
- Certain preservatives
Generally, these products should not be used on children under 2 years of age.
