Proposal for restriction of UV filter octocrylene published
According to the Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 (Annex VI, No. 10), octocrylene is currently allowed to be used as a UV filter in cosmetics at a maximum concentration of 10%.
Due to new scientific findings, it is assumed that octocrylene is very persistent and bioaccumulative. Additionally, it is likely to harm aquatic organisms.
As a result, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) opened a public consultation at the end of September, which will run until March 24, 2026. A ban on marketing cosmetics containing octocrylene in concentrations of more than 0.001% is planned.
We will keep you updated on further developments. You can read the text of the consultation below.
