Recall of organic muesli due to ethylene oxide residue in sesame
Recently, an investigation of an organic muesli found an exceedance of the limit value for ethylene oxide in the organic sesame it contained.
According to Regulation (EC) No 396/2005, a residue level of ethylene oxide of 0.05 mg/kg sesame is permitted.
The publication was also made via the website lebensmittelwarnung.de.
Sesame and sesame products have been recalled from the market repeatedly in the recent past due to ethylene oxide residues. Fumigation with ethylene oxide is intended to kill fungi and bacteria. According to the BfR, the pesticide ethylene oxide is considered "mutagenic and carcinogenic".
