Safety Gate Cosmetics Evaluation - September 2026
In the EU's rapid alert system (Safety Gate), unsafe cosmetics are regularly published and the reasons for this are stated. Publication in the Safety Gate typically leads to a public recall or withdrawal from the market. In addition to the high costs for the respective manufacturers of the products, reputational damage is also highly relevant.
In September 2026, several alerts were posted for the cosmetics product group. The recalls were made, among other reasons, due to the following issues:
- Detection of elevated levels of heavy metals
- Detection of p-phenylenediamine, phenylmethylpyrazolone and m-aminophenol in shampoo
- Detection of formaldehyde, the use of which is prohibited in cosmetics
- Use of the prohibited fragrance ingredient butylphenyl methylpropional (trade name: Lilial)
- Declared SPF (sun protection factor) is not achieved or is not present at all
- Detection of undeclared allergenic fragrance ingredients
Because of the points mentioned, these products do not comply with the requirements of the European Cosmetics Regulation (EC) No. 1223/2009. In addition to analysis of the raw materials and the finished product, the preparation of a safety report for each product is mandatory!
We test for all of the substances and substance classes listed above and thus ensure the safety of your products. Contact us! We are also happy to support you in the risk-oriented selection of suitable test parameters for your finished product or your raw material.
