Safety of Heliotropin in Cosmetic Products - New Inquiry to the SCCS

Regarding the safety of heliotropin and its use in cosmetics, a new mandate has been issued to the SCCS (Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety). The evaluation will determine whether the use of heliotropin is safe and harmless for consumers.

Heliotropin (also known as piperonal) is a fragrance ingredient with a vanilla or almond aroma. The substance is generally chemically synthesized and used in cosmetics. Currently, there is consideration to classify this substance as a Class 1B reproductive toxicant.
