Vegetable broths in Öko-Test: pesticide residues and high salt levels detected
In the current issue of ÖKO-Test (10/2026) 27 dry vegetable broths / bouillons were examined, 17 of which carried an organic seal. Only two products received the overall grade "very good", while several products were downgraded due to pesticide residues, high salt levels and other ingredients.
In almost all conventional broths at least one pesticide residue was detected; in one product there were even four. Öko-Test rated the detection of clothianidin in two products as particularly critical. The insecticide has not been approved for use since 2019.
Another point of criticism is the salt content. For the assessment of the prepared broth, Öko-Test uses a target value of 0.90 g salt per 100 ml. This value was exceeded by numerous products.
Other parameters considered by Öko-Test for the assessment included, among others, the proportion of vegetables, the origin of the vegetable ingredients used, and the use of flavorings and flavor enhancers.
In our Tentamus laboratories we carry out regular tests for pesticide residues, salt content, and other relevant parameters. We provide fast and reliable results. If you have any questions, our customer advisors will be happy to assist you.
