Winterdepression caused by vitamin D deficiency
Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin that is essential for survival. At the same time, it is the only vitamin that the human body can produce itself under the influence of sunlight. Especially in winter, due to bad weather or limited time outdoors, the body often cannot produce enough vitamin D on its own. This can lead to symptoms such as depression, the so-called winter depression.
Vitamin D is also found in certain foods such as fatty fish, eggs, cheese, or mushrooms, but only in a fraction of the daily amount of 20 micrograms (equivalent to 800 international units) recommended by the DGE. Further information on the subject of vitamins and when supplementation is useful can be found in the nutritional guidelines of the BMEL.
In our Tentamus laboratories, we regularly conduct tests for vitamin D and other vitamins. We provide you with fast and reliable results.
