BAV Anniversary Seminar Cosmetics & Pharmaceuticals

To celebrate our 20th company anniversary, we want to offer you a very special two-day seminar this year in cooperation with Concept Heidelberg.
It is aimed at manufacturers and developers of pharmaceuticals (non-sterile preparations) and cosmetics. The seminar will take place on March 22nd and 23rd, 2017 at BAV in Offenburg.

We have put together an exciting program for you. Our speakers will provide hands-on current information and trends on the microbiology of your pharmaceutical and cosmetic products as well as on hygiene and preservation challenge tests according to Ph.Eur. and ISO standard. On this occasion, you can also visit our laboratory facilities.

BAV customers receive a voucher before their registration, which will be credited towards the conference fee. If you are interested, simply contact your customer advisor or Mrs. Nussbaum (Tel. +49 781 96947-243).

We look forward to your visit!

The seminar program, as well as further information about the seminar and registration can be found at Concept Heidelberg.

DGK e. V.

In spring 2017, DGK will offer the advanced course "Microbiology of Cosmetics". The aim and focus is the practical implementation of the preservation challenge test in the development of microbiologically stable and safe cosmetic products. The course is aimed at participants working in microbiological laboratories at cosmetic and raw material manufacturers.

The course will take place from April 26th - 28th, 2017 in Lemgo. Further information can be found directly at DGK under events.

FDA Audit and GMP Audit

On November 2nd and 3rd, 2016, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the American drug authority, was at BAV for an audit for the first time. We are pleased to inform you that we successfully passed the audit without any objections.

The Regional Council of Tübingen also inspected our institute on September 29th, 2016 and confirmed our GMP certificate.

The two audits, as well as numerous customer audits in the past year, strengthen us in our continuous and successful efforts to improve our services.

IFS HPC Version 2

Since January 2017, the version 2 of the IFS HPC Standard, published last April, is the only valid version available. Audits can therefore only be conducted according to this new version. The most significant change compared to version 1 is the introduction of the chapter on "Product Defense", meaning the defense against intentionally induced adverse effects on the product.

Other important changes concern the chapters on monitoring of critical control points (CCPs) and outsourcing.

For information on hazard analysis and risk consulting according to IFS HPC, please refer to our newsletters special edition cosmetics Part 6 and Part 7.

We are happy to offer you consultations and training on this topic.

European Rapid Alert System RAPEX – Microbiological Hazards from Cosmetics

The European Commission's rapid alert system for dangerous consumer goods (RAPEX), excluding food and pharmaceuticals as well as medical products, serves for rapid information exchange between authorities about dangerous consumer goods and the resulting measures to restrict or avoid marketing or use of these products. Included in this are measures imposed by authorities as well as measures issued by manufacturers and distributors.

The individual RAPEX reports, which include descriptions of the hazard, measures, and a description of the product with illustrations, can be publicly viewed. In the year 2016, there were 19 reports which were based on microbiological problems in cosmetic products. The most common source of hazard was an excessive total germ count followed by the detection of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Pluralibacter gergoviae (formerly Enterobacter gergoviae). RAPEX reports are therefore always suitable for information on general problem areas.

The current reports can be tracked on the homepage of the European Commission.
