14.07.2025 - As if: Roasting cures everything. Current recall of salmonella-containing pistachios
Salmonella were detected in roasted pistachios . Since the distribution was handled by a major German discount retailer, a public recall was initiated. The case highlights that within the framework of a HACCP concept, not only the heating process – in this case, roasting – must be considered, but also all hygiene-relevant aspects of the production and packaging environment, such as personal hygiene, pest control, and cleaning.
Contaminations with Salmonella therefore occasionally lead to recalls even in roasted products. For this reason, two major supermarket chains in Austria already removed the corresponding products from the market on June 17 and 18, 2025.
Recommendation: Snack products should be regularly tested for Salmonella. If required, we support you with validated, molecular biological rapid methods.
