15/07/2025 - New SCCS Opinions Cosmetics

The scientific committee of the EU (SCCS) published new opinions concerning the safety of cosmetic ingredients in their meeting in June 2025.

These opinions significantly influence the legislative process concerning the EU Cosmetic Regulation (EC) 1223/2009 and, among other things, lead to the prohibition or restriction of certain ingredients.

The following SCCS opinions were adopted:

Tea Tree Oil (SCCS/1681/25)
Prostaglandin Analogues (SCCS/1680/25)

For Tea Tree Oil, different usage concentrations in rinse-off as well as leave-on products were evaluated as safe.

Regarding the Prostaglandin Analogues, none of the substances evaluated were classified as safe for use in growth-promoting products for eyelashes and eyebrows.
