Analysis of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in cosmetics
Per- and polyfluorinated substances (PFAS) are a group of more than 10,000 substances that can also be registered as environmental contaminants in cosmetics and can lead to the non-marketability of a product according to the Regulation (EC) 1223/2009.
Due to their dirt- and water-repellent properties, PFAS are widely used and thus also find their way into cosmetics. Recently, some PFAS (PFOS, PFOA, PFNA, PFHXS) have been regulated with maximum levels in animal food according to Regulation (EU) 2022/2388. In addition, a general ban through the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) is aimed for in the coming years.
The BAV Institute, as part of the international Tentamus laboratory group, analyzes this complex group of substances using the latest analytical methods as one of the few laboratories in Europe. We also conduct this testing for you in cosmetics and cosmetic raw materials.
