Analysis of preservatives, parabens and co.
Annex 5 of the Regulation (EC) 1223/2009 comprehensively regulates those preservatives that may be used in cosmetic products for the purpose of preservation. These substances may only be used up to a certain maximum amount.
The selection of preservatives has been significantly restricted in recent years due to legal regulations and public discussions. Among others, parabens and thiazolinones have been significantly more strictly regulated.
Usually, trace amounts of preservatives can also enter the final product through pre-preserved raw materials. It is therefore important to sample and test both the raw materials and the final products for the presence of preservatives.
Incidentally, through the so-called Cosing database, you can conveniently view all the appendices of Regulation (EC) 1223/2009 as well as the respective individual substances.
The BAV Institute in the network of the international Tentamus Laboratory Group analyzes nearly 30 different preservatives for you quickly and reliably.
