Apple juice in Ökotest – Findings of pesticide residues (Mepiquat)
In the September 2022 issue of Öko-Test, 33 naturally cloudy apple juices, including 16 with an organic seal, were tested.
The following test parameters were examined:
· Pesticides
· Mold toxins (Mycotoxins)
· Sensory analysis
Pesticides
While all organic juices in the test are completely free of pesticide traces, traces of one or more pesticides were found in all 17 tested conventional apple juices.
The spray toxin mepiquat was detected in five apple juices. Mepiquat in fruit growing promotes fruit formation and prevents premature fruit drop, which can increase yield. Mepiquat is banned in European orchards, which is why a low limit of 0.02 milligrams of mepiquat per kilogram of apples applies at the EU level. Three of the five apple juices exceed this maximum residue level.
Mold toxins and Sensory analysis
No mold toxins (mycotoxins) were detected in any of the tested products. All apple juices were also convincing in terms of sensory analysis, with one exception.
At our Tentamus laboratories, we regularly conduct tests for pesticide residues. We provide you with fast and reliable results.
