Preservation challenges tests are a fundamental building block for assessing the microbiological safety of cosmetic products. 
Since 2012, the ISO 11930 standard on challenge testing of cosmetics has existed. While in the past the focus was particularly on the specifications of the European or American Pharmacopoeia, the ISO 11930 provides guidelines for conducting and evaluating challenge tests specifically tailored to the cosmetics industry, which are gaining increasing importance.
