BAV Food Symposium 2018 – two days all about food safety, quality, and current trends in food law

BAV Food Symposium 2018 – two days all about food safety, quality, and current trends in food law

On November 13 and 14, 2018, representatives of the German food industry, politics, and supervision gathered at the BAV Institute in Offenburg to inform and discuss the latest developments. Conference leader Dr. Gerd Fricke (Vice President of the Federal Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety) moderated the event and provided an overview of current topics being discussed at the political level (information about the speakers can be found below).

On the first day of the symposium, Dr. Petra Luber, Paul Andrei, Dr. Ulrich Busch, and Prof. Dr. Dieter Elsser-Gravessen gave presentations on microbiological-hygienic issues. Dr. Sylvia Pfaff complemented the program with a contribution on allergen and trace labeling, before a panel discussion on the assessment of "controversial" test results or laboratory findings took place.

In the evening, participants and speakers met for a lovely dinner with many interesting conversations.

On the second day, several food law presentations were on the agenda, with all three speakers (Dr. Boris Riemer, Dr. Marcus Girnau, and Rochus Wallau) able to convey the topics in a very practical way. Mr. Andreas Witsch shared his long-standing experience as a quality manager on risk assessment in terms of IFS and BRC before Rochus Wallau concluded the event with a lecture on pest management.

A heartfelt thank you to the excellent speakers who gave presentations at our food symposium, to our conference leader Dr. Fricke, and to Dr. Dreusch from MicroMol for the organization.

Here is a summary of the topics:

We are already looking forward to the upcoming event next year!
