BLL/LAV: Publication of MOH guideline values in English
The LAV (Federal-State Working Group on Consumer Health Protection) and the BLL (German Federation for Food Law and Food Science) already published guideline values for mineral oil hydrocarbons (MOH = MOSH, MOSH analogs and MOAH) in the following food categories in April of this year:
Since July, they have also been available in English translation under the title "Benchmark levels for mineral oil hydrocarbons (MOH) in foods." Additionally, the food groups of Category No. 2 were supplemented with rice and pasta. Both the German and English versions of the MOH guideline values are available at https://www.lebensmittelverband.de/de/aktuell/20190502-veroeffentlichung-moh-orientierungswerte.
The guideline values are not intended to be applied as fixed limits but as a reference basis with a recommendation character for the assessment of MOH in individual products.
The introduction of the guideline values is intended to account for an ubiquitous and technically unavoidable "baseline contamination" of MOH in foods, as well as to create a standardized assessment of foods from the perspective of monitoring, the supply chain, and product testers.
In our Tentamus laboratories, we routinely conduct tests for mineral oil hydrocarbons. We provide you with fast and reliable results.
