The BVL (Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety) released the data from the food surveillance in 2019 on 22.10.20. "More than half a million food businesses were inspected by the supervisory authorities of the federal states in 2019. The rate of complaints remained at a comparable level to the previous year, at 12.9%. The main reason for complaints in 2019 was again violations of hygiene regulations" (BVL). A large portion of the complaints came from the gastronomy sector and communal catering facilities.
