Campylobacteriosis the most common bacterial gastrointestinal disease in the European Union for years
Campylobacter infections are the most common food-borne zoonoses both in Germany (60,000 – 70,000 infections) and in the European Union (> 220,000 infections). Poultry meat is particularly often affected, which is why it should be sufficiently cooked before consumption. However, outbreaks of campylobacteriosis are also attributed to the consumption of unpasteurized milk (raw milk).
Many infections are asymptomatic. However, the following symptoms may occur: diarrhea, abdominal pain and cramps, fever, and fatigue.
In our fact sheets, you can learn more about the significance, origin, and potential sources of contamination of various bacteria such as Campylobacter jejuni in foods. Further information and literature can also be found at the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) or the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR).
At the BAV Institute, we conduct examinations for spoilage organisms and pathogenic germs, such as Campylobacter jejuni.
