The Preservative Efficacy Test (PET) according to ISO 11930
The Preservative Efficacy Test (PET, Challenge Test) is mandatory for all cosmetic products according to Regulation (EC) No. 1223/2009. This test demonstrates the microbiological stability of a product and simulates contamination with selected test microorganisms:
- Pseudomonas paraeruginosa (formerly Pseudomonas aeruginosa) ATCC 9027
- Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538
- Escherichia coli ATCC 8739
- Candida albicans ATCC 10231
- Aspergillus brasiliensis ATCC 16404
We are also happy to include additional microorganisms, such as Burkholderia cepacia or Pluralibacter gergoviae, in the test as well as microorganisms from customer isolates.
