ECJ-judgment:Nutritioninformationofpreparedproducts
Nutritional information on food labeling may only refer to the prepared food under certain conditions. This was decided by the European Court of Justice (ECJ) in its ruling from 11.11.21. The concern was a lawsuit by the Federation of German Consumer Organisations (vzbv) against a food manufacturer. The latter had indicated the nutritional information relative to the prepared product on the display side of one of its muesli products. The final verdict from the Federal Court of Justice is still pending.
According to the ECJ's decision, stating nutritional values based on the prepared product is only possible if preparation is necessary and the preparation method is specified for the food. The aim is the comparability of foods and the information of consumers.
