European Commission publishes the RASFF Annual Report 2021

The European Commission has published the 2021 annual report on the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF).

In 2021, a total of 4,607 initial notifications were transmitted via the RASFF, supplemented by 19,064 follow-up notifications.

Pesticides were once again the most significant reported hazard, accounting for 27% of all health-related notifications. Among the pesticides, the unauthorized substance ethylene oxide remained the biggest challenge with 468 notifications. Many other notifications concerned pesticides whose approval for the EU market was recently withdrawn by the European Union.
