France bans toxic mineral oils (MOAH/MOAH) in printing inks
France introduces a gradual ban on the use of mineral oils in printing inks for packaging and non-packaging with a decree dated 13.04.22.
Health-damaging mineral oil residues (also known as MOSH/MOAH) are repeatedly detected in food. One cause is the migration of MOSH/MOAH from food packaging into the food. Legal maximum levels for MOSH/MOAH in food are still lacking. To assess this, the German Food Association has published guideline values and updated them last year.
The ban in France is phased:
As of 01.01.2023, a maximum level of 1% applies.
As of 01.01.2025, a maximum level of 0.1% applies.
