Health-hazardous Listeria monocytogenes detected in poultry ham pâté - product recall
Listeria monocytogenes was detected in a meat product. The finding leads to a recall of the food.
Listeria are widespread in the environment and can be detected on plants, in wastewater systems, and in the stool of healthy and sick animals. They are often found in raw foods (e.g., meat, poultry, milk, vegetables, fish, and seafood) but are also significant in processed foods (e.g., meat products, smoked fish products, mixed salads).
These bacteria can cause very serious illnesses, especially in pregnant women, infants, the elderly, and sick people. The proportion of fatalities in these individuals is relatively high.
For more information on the subject, see our profile or the information sheets from the Robert Koch Institute.
