Glyphosate use in food
Glyphosate is the most widely used herbicide in the world. It kills any plant that is not genetically modified to survive the application of herbicides. In Germany, glyphosate is used on winter oilseed rape, legumes, winter barley, summer cereals, rye, grain maize, sugar beet, silage maize, winter wheat, fodder plants, and potatoes. A variety of pesticides are ingested through food, while other chemicals enter the body through cosmetics or are inhaled. This leads to what are known as multiple exposures.
In principle: The minimization requirement applies to glyphosate and other undesirable chemicals. According to the EU, 0.3mg/kg of body weight is considered the amount that a person can safely consume daily throughout their lifetime.
More information on glyphosate is well explained on the homepage of the BfR.
