Labeling: Indication of Origin for Unpacked Meat Becomes Mandatory

From January 2024, meat from pigs, sheep, goats, and poultry offered unpackaged in Germany must also have origin labeling. The Federal Cabinet approved this on July 26, 2023. Previously, the regulations for origin labeling only applied to packaged meat and unpackaged beef. At the beginning of July, a mandatory state animal labeling was decided in the Bundestag. This will initially apply only to pork but will be expanded to other animal species in the future. Detailed information and a clear flyer can also be found on the BMEL website.
