Cosmetic Regulation (EU) 2022/1531 – 5th CMR Omnibus Regulation – Ban of Methyl Salicylate
In September, the so-called 5th CRM Omnibus Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2022/1531) amending the Regulation (EC) 1223/2009 was published. This regulation includes further prohibitions of CRM substances for cosmetics, based on the CLP Regulation.
The regulation will come into force on December 17, 2022, with no transitional periods provided. Among others, the following are prohibited (listing in Annex I of the Cosmetics Regulation):
- Methylene di-t-Butylcresol
- Methyl Isobutyl Ketone (MIBK)
For the ingredient Methyl Salicylate, there will be future maximum amounts depending on the type and location of use on the body (listing in Annex III). Furthermore, the use of this substance in products intended for children under 6 years is prohibited.
This restriction also applies immediately from December 17, 2022, without further transitional periods. This means that products not complying with this adaptation regulation may not be made available or placed on the market from December 17.
