Microbiological requirements for water in the cosmetics industry

In the current October edition of the magazine EURO COSMETICS, an interview with Dr. Bernhard Fellenberg from the BAV Institute on the topic of microbiological requirements for water in the cosmetics industry was published. On the same topic, the DGK (German Society for Cosmetics) also published an article with the involvement of Joelle Nussbaum from the BAV Institute.

Water plays a central role in cosmetics production, as it is used as a main ingredient in many cosmetics. If the water used is already microbially contaminated, this also leads to contamination of the final product. However, the water used can also contribute to the growth of microorganisms already present from other ingredients, which also has a negative impact on the cosmetic product. Therefore, to avoid a potential risk to the cosmetic or the end consumer, it is essential that the water used possesses microbially impeccable quality.
