NutritionalLabelling: BMELInformsAboutNutriScore

According to the Food Information Regulation (FIR), nutritional labeling is mandatory for most foods. An extended model is currently being discussed.

The Federal Ministry of Agriculture (BMEL) conducted a representative consumer survey. The possible introduction of the Nutri-Score is viewed positively by consumers.

What is the Nutri-Score?

It is an extended labeling system on the front of the packaging.

This system is intended to provide the consumer with an easily understandable overview of the nutritional quality of a food product.

It is based on a five-level color scale from dark green to red, with the letters A (advantageous nutritional quality) to E (less advantageous nutritional quality).

Federal Minister Julia Klöckner supports the introduction of the Nutri-Score and is pushing for its implementation next year.

Further information can be found at the BMEL and the Food Association of Germany.
