New Maximum Levels for Perfluorinated Alkyl Substances (PFAS) in Food
Perfluorinated Alkyl Substances (PFAS) are a group of artificially manufactured chemical compounds. Due to their water, grease, and dirt-repellent properties, PFAS are used in numerous consumer products such as paper, textiles, non-stick coated pans, or cosmetics.
PFAS are difficult to degrade and can cause undesirable health effects in humans.
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) published a reevaluation of the health risks of PFAS in food in 2020. The Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) also confirmed in 2021 a critical exposure of consumers to PFAS. For this reason, maximum levels for PFAS are to be set in certain foods.
In our Tentamus laboratories, we regularly conduct PFAS testing. We provide fast and reliable results. Our customer service representatives are happy to assist you with any questions.
